[SOLVED] - Fixing flash problems in Firefox after updating Ubuntu

Hi,

The flash plugins problems have given me much headache. This had been happening for few times after I installed updates from Ubuntu. Now, I know that, in the updates, there were updates for Firefox.

After searching for a fix in Ubuntuforums and also in many blogs, I did not succeed to solve this problem. Anyway, I finally test a fix which is posted at Rico on Flex  and guess what! It actually fix my problem! My Youtube videos are working again.

Basically, the fix is, you have to put newest Adobe flash plugin in a non-existed sub-folder in your .mozilla folder. You have to create that folder manually and name it 'plugins'. Remember, the .mozilla folder is in your /home/yourname/  directory and are hidden. You have to press CTRL+H to unhidden it.

Okay, enough talk, lets do it.

Problems : flash video not working after updating firefox

Teories : New firefox installations did not have any links to the flash plugins installed.

Fix :

1. Download Adobe newest flash plugins. Click here. The filename is usually install_flash_player_10_linux.tar.gz
Save it anywhere you like!

2. Open the folder where you saved the file. Right click and pick Extract Here. You will get a file ended with .so as libflashplayer.so

Don't close this folder.

3. Open your home folder. Usually you can just click [Places]-[Home Folder]. It is on your Gnome menu on top of your screen.

4. Press CTRL+H and find and open a folder named .mozilla.  Right click and create a new folder called plugins in it.

Don't close this folder.

5. Just copy or drag the libflashplayer.so file from your download folder into your newly created plugins folder.

6. RESTART firefox.

Thats all. Please comments back if this also worked for you!

This is the list of the most popular searches / clicks on Distrowatch.org for this year. Looks like Ubuntu still owns the throne.

So, it is obvious that Ubuntu is still The Most Popular Linux Distributions! And it is not a shock that Mint is second, considering the good mouth-says about Linux Mint 8 had been going for few months.

Fedora and Mandriva is still the force behind those who like those Red Hat derivatives distros and OpenSUSE is the lone ranger in setting the linux standard today.

By facts, Debian core is the most popular distro on earth with Ubuntu and Mint  marching side-by-side with pride in the Linux world!

Mengaktifkan Driver Wireless dalam Compaq Presario CQ40-627TU

German screenshot of Ubuntu 9.10 "Karmic ...Salam sejahtera,

Terlebih dahulu, terima kasih atas pertanyaan saudara. Tahniah!

Baiklah, mari kita mulakan.

Buka terminal :-

1. Kita periksa dulu jenis adapter wifi laptop :    sudo lspci
pastikan kita mempunyai adapter Broadcom terlebih dahulu. Model 627TU yang diuji mempunyai adapter Broadcom BCM4312 (rev 01).

3.  Sekiranya pakej bcmwl-kernel-source dan bcmwl-modalaliases telah dipasang. Sila BUANG terlebih dahulu. Klik kanan dan pilih pilihan Mark for Complete Removal.

4. Di terminal, sila taipkan : sudo apt-get autoremove && sudo apt-get autoclean
Kemudian, taipkan sudo apt-get --purge bcmwl-kernel-source bcmwl-modalaliases
Ini untuk memastikan pakej itu dibuang sepenuhnya.

Kemudian taipkan    sudo apt-get update

6. Pasang semula driver tersebut dengan arahan   sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source bcmwl-modalaliases

7. Kemudian    sudo reboot
WAJIB RESTART.

Selamat berjaya!

Enabling Virtualbox USB support in Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala

Basically, you also need to add this line to your /etc/fstab:

none /proc/bus/usb usbfs devgid=userid,devmode=664 0 0

where "userid" must be replaced with the number in the output of "grep vboxusers /etc/group" (I think this is the group user id of vboxusers, but hit me if I'm wrong).

Then restart and go to your machine settings (machine must be powered off for that). Make sure USB 2.0 is enabled and also APIC IO on the Systems tab must be enabled!

That should do it. Worked great for me on Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic with VB 3.1 PUEL.

For Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic, additionally see this link with a great description: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/VirtualBox/USB

This is from the wikis for faster reference :

For Karmic

From a terminal run the following command:
  1. Add yourself to the vboxusers group if not already there: -

    if [ "`grep vboxusers /etc/group|grep $USER`" == "" ] ; then sudo usermod -G vboxusers -a $USER ; fi

This works for Karmic 9.10 Host and Windows XP Guest

From a terminal run the following command:
  1. This will check for your vbox user id which you'll need for the next steps. This will display a line that looks a bit like this: vboxusers:x:123:myself 123 is the user id of your machine you're looking for

    grep vbox /etc/group
  2. This will edit your FSTAB File

    sudo gedit /etc/fstab
  3. Add the following line to the bottom of the fstab file: Replace userid with the number displayed from step 1.

    none /proc/bus/usb usbfs devgid=userid,devmode=664 0 0

    • Example: none /proc/bus/usb usbfs devig=123,devmod=664 0 0
  4. Reboot Ubuntu 9.10

  5. Once logged into Ubuntu 9.10 start VirtualBox (Don't power on a guest OS yet)

  6. Click Settings from the VirtualBox main page for the Windows XP Guest OS
  7. Click the System tab on the left side of screen

    1. Enable IO APIC is needs to be selected
  8. Click the USB tab on the left side of screen

    1. Enable USB Controller and Enable USB 2.0 (EHCI) Controller need to be selected
    2. Your USB device should be recognized and ticked in the lower screen. If not, press the 'add' button (to the far right, 2nd one with the green cross) and add it.

  9. Power on your Guest OS and USB Should work
